The best entrepreneurs never stop growing. They make learning and evolving as humans and business people a top priority in their lives. They focus on where they are going, not where they have been. And they’re all about the big picture and how bright it looks. (Why is it bright? Because they make it that way, using the concept I’m going to talk to you about below. Keep reading.)

Today we’re going back to one of my favorite business mentors, Stephen Covey. He’s the inspiration behind next week’s blog too; that should tell you how important his lessons are to me. More specifically, I want to touch on a quote that captivated me so much, I had to stop what I was doing, put his book down and tell you about it immediately. From his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:

“Self-growth is tender. It’s holy ground. There’s no greater #investment.” – Stephen Covey

Before we dive into those amazing words, I want to say if you haven’t read this book yet, I highly recommend it. I know it’s an oldie, but it’s a goodie. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is still around today because it’s timeless, and its wisdom impacts you regardless of your—or its—age.

Let’s pause and take in a deep breath. Now, I want to repeat that powerful sentence.

“Self-growth is tender.

It’s holy ground.

There’s no greater investment.”

Isn’t that miraculous? Self-growth isn’t meant to be put on the back burner, waitlisted behind our other to-dos, or forgotten about completely. If you ignore it, we suffer. If we overlook it, we overlook something divine. And if we reject it, we harm our very futures—because it’s an investment.

Even though you’re busy living your life and running your business, you have GOT to take that chunk of time every day and invest it in yourself. You might think you don’t have the time, but consider this a non-negotiable. Even if it’s only 15 minutes, you can squeeze it in.

Here are my favorite ways to experience self-growth in 15 minutes or less:

  1. Read a blog that teaches me something.
  2. Watch a video lesson from anyone who knows more than I do.
  3. Listen to a podcast that shifts my perspective.
  4. Meditate.
  5. Unplug completely. Go phone-free, computer-free. Go electricity-free if you can manage!

Whatever you choose, promise me you’ll put self-growth at the tippety top of that list of priorities I know you have somewhere. Start now. That’s how we grow—over the days. Over the weeks. Over the years.

"That’s how we grow—over the days. Over the weeks. Over the years."
